In winter the north-east monsoon blows — that is the season for Mui Ne and Phan Rang. In summer the monsoon fades and a soft thermal wind starts in Nha Trang. That makes Vietnam an almost year-round kite destination.
November – March: Mui Ne & Phan Rang
The main kitesurfing season in Vietnam. The north-east monsoon brings wind almost every day.
- Mui Ne — season November to March, average wind 16–23 knots. The most reliable months are January to March: steady wind and dry weather.
- Phan Rang — season November to April, average wind 17–29 knots, usually stronger than in Mui Ne. The flat lagoon water helps you get up on the board faster.
New Year is the busiest time — book your lessons in advance. Early December is the quietest.
April and October
Transition months: the wind is unpredictable. In April you can still catch wind in Phan Rang, but for a kite-only trip it is better to plan for the main season.
May – September: Nha Trang
The winter monsoon fades and a thermal wind starts along the coast: the land heats up during the day and a steady sea breeze comes in. In Nha Trang the average wind is then 12–16 knots — soft and comfortable for beginners, and great for hydrofoiling.
